VfB Stuttgart's 2022-23 season was a story of late salvation. The club sat bottom of the Bundesliga when Sebastian Hoeneß replaced Bruno Labbadia in April, and his impact was immediate, with three wins and four draws from the final stretch lifting Stuttgart out of the automatic relegation places and into 16th.
That finish sent the club into the relegation play-off against Hamburger SV, where Stuttgart produced a commanding display, winning 6-1 on aggregate to preserve their Bundesliga status.
